Il primo ''L'illusione'', che è focalizzato sulla figura di Teresa, il secondo, i Viceré appunto, che si apre con la sua morte, per poi continuare in un turbinio di vicissitudini che ne fanno un romanzo polifonico, e poi il terzo, l'Imperio. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Cliente Amazon -- Bello ma impegnativo : É decisamente un bel romanzo scritto in modo magistrale dall'autore ; questo permette al lettore di affrontare un libro piuttosto impegnativo sia per la mole, sia per il gran numero di personaggi che si avvicendano. È uno spaccato di vita dell'aristocrazia di metà ottocento e delle vicende politiche della Sicilia e dell'italia in generale di quel momento. La vicenda mette in evidenza la gretta mentalità dell'epoca, i pregiudizi e le ingiustizie che la caratterizzavano. L'autore pone particolare attenzione alla natura umana dei personaggi che vengono descritti ed analizzati, con grande maestria, nei loro vizi e virtù . Niente viene loro risparmiato: questo rende il romanzo attuale perché vizi e virtù umane non sono poi così cambiate nonostante i grandi progressi storici dei tempi moderni. Lo consiglio. Martini -- Un libro di alto valore letterario. : Per lunghi decenni su questo libro è ingiustamente calato il silenzio alla stregua dei numerosi romanzi d’appendice da leggere e dimenticare. Nulla di più errato poiché trattasi di un’opera di alto livello letterario, dove l’autore, indiscutibile maestro di scrittura, ci propone l’avvincente storia della nobile casata degli Uzeda, ambientata nell’Ottocento siciliano che si intreccia con i travagliati avvenimenti politici accaduti prima e dopo l’unità d’Italia. Diciamo pure che De Roberto non ha avuto dalla sua parte i santi in paradiso, a differenza di altri autori di caratura inferiore alla sua, per poter primeggiare e diventare un classico da inserire anche nei programmi scolastici, benché, come si usa dire, “Il tempo è galantuomo” e così negli ultimi anni, grazie ai lettori che non si lasciano condizionare dalle critiche dei soloni, il suo nome sta guadagnando la reputazione che gli spetta di diritto. Resta il rammarico di dover constatare che anche nel campo dell’arte la meritocrazia non sempre viene presa subito in considerazione e talvolta ci vogliono generazioni, come nel presente caso, affinché il vero talento sia riconosciuto. Attraverso il romanzo, De Roberto ci presenta tutta una serie di personaggi, appartenenti alla grande famiglia degli Uzeda, discendenti dagli antichi Viceré spagnoli che governavano in Sicilia, i quali lottano tra loro per calcolo e avidità al fine di conquistare quella supremazia detenuta, sino alla sua morte, dalla principessa madre, Teresa di Francalanza. Risultano interessanti i ritratti degli eredi, tutti sottoposti, fin dall’infanzia, all’autorità assoluta di costei, la quale decideva, a secondo delle simpatie, dei loro destini e delle loro fortune. Del grande affresco narrativo fanno parte anche altri membri della casata degli Uzeda alcuni dei quali aspirano a occupare posizioni di prestigio in ambito politico, specie in concomitanza dell’unificazione italiana del 1861, cavalcando quelle nuove libertà da loro prima sempre negate. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Roby -- stato non buono del libro consegnato : Buongiorno, il libro mi è pervenuto con la copertina macchiata, presumo di inchiostro di stampa, e con un bollino sul retro "FALLATO"!?! Tenuto conto del modesto costo del libro non ho voluto fare il reso ma questa cosa mi ha dato fastidio, visto che finora non avevo mai avuto problemi con quanto speditomi anzi in un caso eravate stati voi a bloccare la spedizione di un libro non conforme provvedendo al successivo reinvio di un altro volume in perfette condizioni. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Cetty D. -- Un capolavoro. : Difficile, oggi , trovare libri scritti così bene! Descrizioni di ambienti e paesaggi praticamente perfetti. Personaggi numerosi, ma tutti ben delineati e riconoscibili, attraverso caratteristiche e debolezze. Una famiglia, quella degli Uzeda, apparentemente fortunata, ricchissima, stimata e ossequiata, ma i cui membri vivono , ciascuno a modo proprio, una vita travagliata , complicata da scelte obbligate e sottoposta a regole, non scritte, ma inderogabili! Il fine ultimo sembra essere l'infelicità. Mentre si fa l'Italia, la ribellione e i moti patriottici,, di qualche personaggio del romanzo, non convincono molto! E infatti molto presto gli interessi materiali prevarranno su tutto! Ne consiglio la lettura a chi ama questo genere letterario, per l'accuratezza con cui si descrive un "mondo " passato e complesso come quello della Sicilia dell'Ottocento.
